The Prevention Minute was the brainchild of a dedicated group of parents looking to gain a better understanding of their community's evolving drug, alcohol, and tobacco environment. Armed with a small grant from the Indiana Department of Education, these individuals set forth to design a platform that would provide parents with a reliable source from which to obtain accurate, up-to-date news and information .
It's no secret that our nation is facing some serious substance abuse related issues. From prescription opioids to the deadly rise of synthetic drugs such as Fentanyl, today's rapidly evolving illicit drug environment is having a devastating effect on individuals, families, and communities. The absence of an easily accessible resource in which to obtain accurate news and information has led to a systemic lack of awareness among parents, educators, and youth serving professionals.
To address this problem, our organization is launching,
The Prevention Minute, a sixty-second video news capsule highlighting the latest on the substance abuse related issues impacting the U.S. The advent of social media, online video, and mobile apps, have transformed the way we now consume information. The Prevention Minute was designed to take advantage of this shift by using a short-form video format, to deliver prevention related information that is visually appealing, accessible, and easily shared.
